Q. How do I log into my Control Panel?
A. http://www.centralhostoffice.net/cpanel
is the usual method. There are two other ways, but they're harder to remember:
https://72.21.57.242:2083 is the secure
control panel interface, while
http://72.21.57.242:2082 is the standard
control panel. You can also use your own domain name, followed by
"/cpanel".
Q. How do I log into the Webmail interface?
A. http://www.centralhostoffice.net/webmail
is the usual method. There are two other ways, but they're harder to remember:
https://72.21.57.242:2096 is the secure
webmail interface, while
http://72.21.57.242:2095 is the standard
webmail interface. You can also use your own domain name, followed by
"/webmail". We recommend including a small link to the secure webmail page
from your front page, so your users can easily access webmail securely.
Q. What happened to OpenWebmail?
A. Old versions of OpenWebmail have security issues when used
with cPanel, but it is possible for it to return in the future, as the security
issue seems to have been resolved. Currently, you have a choice between three
other great webmail modules: Neomail, Horde or Squirrelmail. Try each of them
out, as everyone has different comfort levels with each of these webmail
modules.
Q. I am a site administrator. Where can I learn to use
cPanel?
A. An online version of the manual is available
here (http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel).
The interface is quite self-explanatory, but you can always ask for assistance
by emailing us your concern. We can always do some of the modifications
for you. For more thorough issues, you can also go to
cPanel's forum section. Finally, a
PDF version of the cPanel instruction manual is available
here (608k zipped).
Q. I am a site administrator. Where can I read my admin
emails?
A. There is an inherent flaw in cPanel's email account
handling (at least in the case of CentralHostOffice's cPanel installation).
For example, if your admin login is "master", you will not receive email
sent to "master@yourdomain.com" unless you create a another email account
named "master" in the Mail > Manage page. The two "master" accounts will
be treated as two different accounts.
Q. How can I reject all emails that are misdirected or
obviously being spammed to my domain?
A. You can set your domain to reject all incoming email without
proper recipients, but you must then create an email account for your master
cPanel account should you wish to use such master cPanel account to receive
email. Go to "Default Address" under cPanel's email feature and set the
address to ":fail: no such address here". Voila, no more random emails.
Q. I am migrating from another webhost. What's the easiest
way to transfer my website to Central Host Office?
A. We can't move the email still stored in your old server,
but we can easily move all the contents of your actual website if you have shell
access at the old site. It's just a matter of ZIPping them up (.tgz format)
and sending the ZIPfile to your new site via FTP.
Q. How do I change my email address' password?
A. When logging into your email account, make sure you include the
complete domain with your username, in the format "username@domain.com". At the
webmail software option page you will see the option to change your password.
This option does not appear if you do not include your domain name during
login.
Q. Do I have shell access? How do I use it?
A. Many admin accounts are provided jailshell access to their
own directories. We strongly recommend use of SSH clients such as PuTTY to
get into shell accounts. Make sure you're using Port 22 (SSH protocol).
Q. Where are the modules you promised in the Hosting Plans section?
A. Modules may be activated from your control panel. Each site
must activate its own modules. Each module uses one MySQL database. Do
analyze your needs before installing modules, as you have a limited number of
databases. Modules are found either in the main menu of the control panel, or
inside the Fantastico section. Again, the modules are there -- you have to
install them to be able to use them.
Q. I use Server Side Includes (SSI) but I also want to use
PHP. How can I use both at the same time?
A. Note that using any one of these will add some load on the
server, but if you really have to, go to MIME Types in your control panel and
add Mime Type "application/x-httpd-php" and "text/x-server-parsed-html", both
with extensions "html htm".
Q. I only availed of domain registration. There is still no website,
no nothing. What else is included with your domain registration service? Do I
get a parking page?
A. We can provide you a 2MB parking page with 40MB of bandwidth.
This will allow you to put up your logo and email address at the very least.
For all domains that are registered through us, we will manage DNS entries for
you, including modification of contact details and server addresses. We can
also be your DNS server if your webhost does not provide you such service.
